Lake Austin Residence

Perched on a steep lot in Westlake, this soft contemporary home responds to the unique challenges and opportunities offered by the site’s topography and proximity to Lake Austin. Capturing the views of Lake Austin throughout the home was a primary goal, as well as designing around five large heritage oak trees on the property. The site’s natural landscape helped shape the back of the house and open the best views from nine areas of the home to the lake below, while allowing the outdoor living spaces to take advantage of the summer’s southeasterly winds. The interior of the home is divided into five key living zones: the owners’ private retreat areas near the front of home, the centrally located formal entertainment areas, the family areas in the rear section, and on the upper level the children’s areas, as well as the guest suite. Light material selections, acrylic furniture pieces, and soothing colors and patterns create a light-filled waterfront retreat for relaxation. The home responds to the needs of the family, while capitalizing on the site’s natural topography and stunning views.
