It's that time of year again! In Austin, that could mean just about anything as there seems to be some kind of annual event happening on any given weekend. But what I'm referring to this weekend is Barkitecture! According to their website, Barkitecture is a custom doghouse design show, contest, silent auction and, most importantly, a fundraiser! From its inception in 2005, Barkitecture has become an Austin favorite and gained national exposure. Hosted by Animal Lovers of Austin, Inc., this architectural dog-centric event showcases prototype doghouses created by Austin’s best and brightest architects, interior designers, and builders.

An event that’s fun for all ages, drawing in pooches and people alike, Barkitecture attendees and their dogs get to check out and bid on these one-of-a-kind doghouses, learn about adoption/animal advocacy opportunities, shop local vendor booths, take part in a costume contest, and do other fun activities! It's a really fun event for all ages...humans and dogs!
Cornerstone Architects had a great time participating back in 2007. We worked together to design and build a contemporary, practical doghouse constructed of recycled oxidized metal, reclaimed cypress wood and donated polycarbonate panel from Gallina.

Many of our Barkitecture team from back in the day are still here at Cornerstone 11 years later, including Brian McLaury, Adam Steiner, Myriam Habib, and Pam Chen!
The doghouse was auctioned off and helped to raise $10,000 in for non-profit, volunteer-run groups that help find homes for homeless animals! We look forward to putting another team together for this awesome event again in the future!
The weather looks amazing this weekend...so if you have time, check out Barkitecture this Sunday, October 28th from 12pm to 4pm at Fair Market! This year's event will benefit Bastrop Animal Rescue, Emancipet, and PALS.
