Gaston Residence

Residential Portfolio  >  Gaston Residence

A sloping lot and an unsightly neighboring building presented some design challenges for this home along Shoal Creek. To take advantage of the right to left slope, the garage was designed on the lower level while extending the main level above to maximize the views and light through the front. This also allowed for a 4-car garage on a relatively thin lot without blocking the home’s facade. The layout of the main living room with the guest wing set to the left focuses the eye toward the green space, while the guest house shields a large apartment complex in the back left from view. The guest house is set back with a connecting sky bridge to open views from the main living areas. A large, protected oak created the opportunity for a private courtyard for the master suite and a mid-level courtyard helping to terrace down to the pool level. This contemporary, multi-level home set among the oaks provides a tranquil tree house effect near the heart of downtown Austin.
